Josh Doan’s excellent NHL debut with dad in attendance was special

Arizona Coyotes rookie Josh Doan capped off his highly anticipated and special NHL debut last night against the Columbus Blue Jackets after notching two goals in front of his father and Coyotes legend Shane Doan and his family.

Today on Daily Faceoff Live, Frank Seravalli and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton recap the Doan’s special night that saw Shane in utter disbelief as Josh scored his first goal and Josh’s uncle with his shirt off in the press box.

Frank Seravalli: Shane Doan’s son Josh Doan made his NHL debut last night with the Coyotes and got the rookie lap, gets two goals, a pretty amazing moment at the Mullet Arena and what could be seen as a highlight of their season. What did you enjoy about that?

Carter Hutton: You know honestly as a father of a son who plays hockey and loves sports, I can’t imagine how Shane feels at this moment. But for him, it’s a surreal moment, he plays for the team that his father basically built. He also got a second goal, one that was a bit overlooked, but a nice tip in goal showing how skilled he is. Being in that spotlight is just amazing.

Frank Seravalli: There were so many great moments in the Josh Doan debut night just the joy on Shane’s face, covering his mouth basically in shock that his son scored in his NHL debut. The beauty of that first goal was nice as well, just batting it out of the air.
