Todd Boehly admits he had good relationship with Chelsea flop who told him why he failed

One of Chelsea’s co-owners Todd Boehly has been speaking out in public this week in some rare words from the Blues hierarchy.

The owners have faced scrutiny this season and have faced a lot of criticism since the start of their reign. Last season was poor, and this season has also not really been good enough, both seasons floating around as a mid-table team.

They even got called billion pound bottle-jobs recently by pundit Gary Neville, and there has been a lot of doom and gloom around their ownership so far.

But they have always kept with what they believe in, and that is that this project will work and they will get Chelsea back to challenging at the very top again.

They have made mistakes though and some flop signings, one of them being Kalidou Koulibaly who just didn’t work in the Premier League.

Boehly admits he had a great relationship with Koulibaly, who explained to him why he found it so tough in England and would have been the reason he failed here.

“There’s no bigger sport in the world,” Boehly said in words via The Athletic. “When you think about just the size and scale of European football, it’s just mind-numbing and there’s no better league in the world in the Premier League. If you look at how these guys play, the speed with which they play the game. One of my players who I had a great relationship with is Kalidou Koulibaly. Koulibaly came over from Serie A (where he played for Napoli) and he told me one time, ‘In Serie A, I get to think and then run but in the Premier League, I have to run while I think, and I’m still adjusting to that’.”

It makes sense, this league is not for everyone.
