Valencia were left reeling after the horrific injury suffered by defender Mouctar Diakhaby during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Real Madrid at the Mestalla. The 27-year-old suffered a dislocated knee after an unfortunate collision with Aurelien Tchouameni, and he has been ruled out for the remainder of the season as a result.

On Thursday, Diakhaby underwent successful surgery on his knee, meaning that he can now begin his recovery. Valencia have since received more good news on the back of this, as it’s been reported by Sport that the Guinean international has suffered no damage to his meniscus or cartilage.

This should mean that Diakhaby is back in action sooner than expected, as initial diagnoses suggested that he could be out of action for approximately 12 months. Now, there could even be a chance that he is back for the start of next season.

For now, Diakhaby’s full focus will be on recovery, although he will have a target date in mind for his return. Valencia will be by his side the entire way.
